Upper Secondary Field Trip

In the early hours of 23rd January 2026, our school buses rolled out with sleepy smiles, laughter, and eager anticipation. This was not an ordinary school day. Books stayed behind, but learning came with us.

Our journey began at the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation and Research Centre. There, we watched tiny hatchlings slowly make their way toward the ocean. The moment was quiet, yet powerful. It reminded us that even the smallest lives matter. It also showed us that caring for nature is a shared responsibility. For many students, this was their first real experience of conservation in action.

Next, we visited the Cinnamon Training Academy in Kosgoda. The warm, spicy aroma welcomed us as we arrived. We learned how cinnamon grows and how it becomes the spice we use at home. As a result, we gained a deeper appreciation for Sri Lanka’s natural resources and traditions. We also enjoyed cinnamon tea and freshly prepared cake, which made the experience even more memorable.

After that, our cultural journey continued at the Ariyapala Mask Factory. Here, we saw vibrant hand-crafted masks. Each mask told a story of history, healing, and folklore. In addition, students learned how these traditions continue through generations of skilled craftsmanship.

In Galle, we visited the Maritime Museum. Through its exhibits, we discovered Sri Lanka’s deep connection with the sea. We saw shipwrecks, old navigation tools, and trade history. Because of this, students understood how the ocean shaped our island’s past and development.

Finally, the day ended at Rumassala and Unawatuna Beach. The pace slowed, and the sound of waves replaced classroom noise. The sea breeze brought calm and reflection. Students simply enjoyed the beauty around them and the peaceful end to a full day.

As we returned home, we carried more than memories. This was not only a journey across places, but also a journey through nature, culture, and discovery. Throughout the day, students learned to stay curious, care for one another, and see the world with respect and wonder. Friendships grew stronger, confidence grew, and learning came alive.

Some lessons are written in textbooks. Others are written in memories. This was one we will never forget.
