Sinhala and Tamil New Year

All Nations International School came alive with colour, joy, and tradition as we celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 9th April 2026. Students, teachers, and staff gathered in a spirit of unity and thanksgiving. Together, we embraced the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.

Firstly, the day began with a vibrant opening ceremony. It set a joyful tone with warm welcomes and a lively dance performance. After that, we observed traditional New Year rituals. These included lighting the hearth, drawing water from the well, receiving blessings from elders, and sharing meals together. As a result, each ritual reflected new beginnings, gratitude, and togetherness.

Next, the celebration continued with a variety of games and activities. Students and staff filled the school grounds with laughter and excitement. For example, traditional games such as Kana Mutti and lime-and-spoon races brought great joy. In addition, creative challenges and class activities encouraged everyone to take part.

Meanwhile, one special highlight was the sharing of traditional Aurudu food. The school community came together with generosity and fellowship. Because of this, the moment reflected the true heart of the New Year celebration.

Finally, this event was more than just a celebration. It reminded us of the values we cherish—unity, respect, gratitude, and joy. Overall, it was a day filled with laughter, connection, and lasting memories. Most importantly, it beautifully captured the spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
