On 25th August, our secondary students set out on an unforgettable journey to the heart of Sri Lanka’s governance: the Presidential Secretariat and the President’s House in Colombo. What began as a history and civics lesson quickly turned into a day of inspiration, laughter, and reflection on leadership in light of God’s calling.
The adventure started at the Presidential Secretariat, inside the majestic Old Parliament Building. Students explored the first Parliament’s Council Chamber, connecting with the very roots of Sri Lanka’s democracy. A special lecture by senior journalist Chandana Sooriyabandara sparked curiosity and imagination, challenging students to think about how they can impact the world around them. The Secretariat gifted a small plant to the students—a sweet reminder that just as plants grow with care, so too do God-given talents flourish when nurtured with faith, diligence, and love for others.
Next, the students toured the President’s House, a building rich in history and colonial elegance. They marveled at its grand architecture, high ceilings, and timeless interiors, imagining centuries of important decisions made within these walls. Beyond history, the visit invited students to reflect on the qualities of true leadership: humility, service, and integrity—reminding us all that ultimate wisdom and guidance come from God, who calls every one of us to serve others faithfully.
This journey was more than sightseeing—it was a vivid, hands-on lesson in history, leadership, and character. Students left inspired, not only by the grandeur of the buildings but by the challenge to use their gifts, make wise choices, and shine God’s light in every corner of their lives.
